Our Story

H. Mounier owns the brand Reynac since its launch in 1969. It has contributed greatly to the development of the Pineau des Charentes. Le brand set an example for the whole profession in order to raise awareness and appreciation of this liquor wine beyond the borders of the Charente and Charente-Maritime.

The name Reynac was designed with a trailing "ac" typical of the region of Charentes (Cognac, Jarnac, Mérignac, etc). This Celtic sounding reflects the different historic possessions of Charentes and means property, fiefdom. "Rey" which means "king", gives noble origins to the product. Reynac could therefore be translated as "the King's fiefdom".

During these 40 years, Reynac has emerged as the leading brand on the Pineau market, with a strong commercial presence on the French market. Pineau Reynac is now a trendy popular cocktail around the world.

Today, the quality of Pineau des Charentes Reynac, which we owe to the experience and the know-how of its oenologists, is indisputable, and has been awarded several times during famous competitions, such as the Concours Régional des Saveurs, the Concours Général Agricole in Paris, or the Guide Hachette des Vins.

The making process of Pineau des Charentes

Pineau des Charentes Reynac is a fortified wine made from grapes harvested by members of our cooperative wineries and some other wineries carefully selected by us. Some of these contributions has been previously converted into brandy previous years before entering the pineau making process.

The vineyard extends Charente-Maritime, Charente and some Dordogne municipalities. The vines run along the limestone hills of the appellation of origin and only the grapes from these vineyards will produce the Pineau des Charentes.

The white pineau des Charentes Reynac, comes from Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard. The Rosé or Red is produced from red grapes like Cabernet and Merlot grape varieties.

The fortification

The making process of Pineau des Charentes Reynac is performed under the direction of our winemakers by stopping the cycle of fermentation of grape must. After pressing, the obtained grape must obtained are fortified with eaux-de-vie from Cognac appellation, not less than 60% volume and over the age of one year. This step will break the fermentation process of musts. At the end of development, Pineau presents an alcoholic degree of 16% to 22%.

Aging

Aging Pineau des Charentes Reynac occurs in our Mirambeau and Laubaret cellars respecting the tradition of oak barrels.
• For white Pineau, livestock is at least 18 months, including 12 months in oak.
• For Pineau rosé or red, it will take 12 months of age at least, 8 months in oak.

Rigorous monitoring of this phase of aging including sampling and tasting with our winemaker ensures the style of the house Reynac. The search for optimal ripeness of this fortified wine makes Reynac a perfect balanced drink exhaling intense and rich aromas of red fruits, vanilla and nuts.

Prolonged aging - 5 or 10 years at least in oak barrels will give our Old Extra Old Pineau des Charentes Reynac.
